The Sagrado Series with Healer Patricia Federico

Last week Cultural Coalition held another event in the Ancestral Knowledge Lecture Series at The Sagrado Gallery in South Phoenix on Thursday, May 17. Patricia Federico presented a fascinating talk on her journey as a Curandera/Healer.  The audience was captivated by her personal stories about growing up in Las Cuatro Milpas barrio of Phoenix and experiencing first-hand her Tia’s curative powers as a sobadora (Massage Healer).  She shared her knowledge about the different types of curanderas that are traditional in our culture, the history of the healing arts over the centuries and their importance in today’s stressful times.

Her compelling stories had everyone cracking up with her homegirls style and provocative sense of humor.  Laughter is healing!  The audience expressed a great desire to learn more and to share our Ancient Knowledge.

This series kicked off in January with Zarco’s presentation of “The Gila and The Salt,” a masked theatrical performance that chronicals the history and people of the valley’s rivers and canal system.  In March we hosted a lecture by Victor Hugo on the building of Tenochtitlan by the Mexica on Lake Texcoco in Central Mexico.

The series will continue in the fall. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated.
