Board Spotlight: Meet Zarina Guerrero

Cultural Coalition is thrilled to introduce our newest Board Member, Marketing & Social Entrepreneurship Specialist Zarina Guerrero.

Voted onto the Board during our September Board meeting, we’re excited to have Zarina as part of the Cultural Coalition team. Especially since she’s been an informal part of the team ever since she was little. Get to know Zarina from a recent chat we had with her to find out more about what inspired her to make her connection to Cultural Coalition official.

Cultural Coalition: How did you first learn about Cultural Coalition?

Zarina: The Cultural Coalition has always been a part of my life, since my parents – Carmen and Zarco Guerrero – are its founders. I grew up always seeing my parents working as artists, community activists and festival organizers. Over the years, I have watched the work that they do grow, and eventually lead to the foundation of Cultural Coalition. It truly has been an honor to see the work that they do positively impact so many in the community.

CulCoal: What inspires you most about the arts?

Zarina: I have witnessed first hand the impact that art makes in the community, especially for young children. For me, arts and music has helped connect me to my culture and has inspired my own career journey. I believe that with more community arts events and arts education, such as those the Cultural Coalition supports, more children will be given the tools and inspiration they need to pursue their own dreams.

CulCoal: Why did you decide to join the board and what are the things you are most excited to do or work on while serving on the board?

Zarina: I am excited to support my parent’s vision and help build a lasting legacy for the Cultural Coalition. It is my hope that this incredible organization will be around for generations to come, becoming a part of the Valley’s cultural and artistic foundation.

Zarina has already made a great impact at Cultural Coalition, helping with our MIKIZTLI festival, bringing exciting ideas on how to create a greater organizational presence at our festivals, and more! We look forward to working with her to ensure Cultural Coalition thrives as an arts and culture community resource for many more years.
