MaskAlive! Our First Ever Mask Festival!

Here at Cultural Coalition, we are known for celebrating culture through masks and processional sculptures. Master artist Zarco Guerrero and fellow performers like Quetzalli Ballet Folklorico and Ken Koshio use masks to tell stories to our communities. Thanks to the support of Community Development Partners, we will be bringing you and your family a unique experience at the MaskAlive! Festival.  This is our very first annual festival in Mesa that celebrates the diversity of our community through masks from different cultures.

The giant puppets and fascinating masks will come to life while dancing to pulsating drums and lively mariachis. These festivities will take place at the newly renovated Pioneer Park, 526 East Main Street, Mesa on Sunday March 25th, 2018 from 2 to 6 pm. It is free and open to all!

The i.d.e.a Museum will be on site with kids art activities and local artists will offer participatory performances and parades. Families and children are invited!

MaskAlive! celebrates the diverse cultures that make up our community! Local dance, music and theater companies will demonstrate the power of the mask to transform the actors as well as the audience. Performances will include Chinese Lion dancers, Mexican folklórico dancing and Mariachis, African music and dancers, Japanese Taiko drumming and Brazilian Capoeira dance & drummers.

MaskAlive! will highlight the extensive use of masks and its profound legacy in the cultural life of the Valley Arts scene.      Come join in the excitement of interacting with the hilarious cast of masked characters and celebrating arts and cultures.
