Mask Alive Museum & Cultural Center

Last August, Cultural Coalition announced we had received funding from the Gente Chicana/SOYmos Chicanos Fund to support projects related to the preservation of Chicano/a arts. From these funds, one of our biggest projects was launched – The Mask Museum!

Over the last year, Cultural Coalition staff have worked with Artist, Master Sculptor, and our Artistic Director, Zarco Guerrero to inventory, photograph, and catalog over 170 masks to the Artwork Archive online artwork management platform. We are excited to share that these first few masks added to the archive will be available to view soon for everyone to enjoy. The archive will explore the different history behind each mask and delve into the tradition of mask making shared by cultures around the world.

The Mask Museum has plans to expand with curated online exhibitions that will be available for loan to other exhibiting organizations and include an archive of previously exhibited works. The future of this project envisions offering tours of public art around the Valley by Cultural Coalition artists, and production of pop-up exhibits to connect and engage our communities with the arts.

Take a look at some of the progress we’ve made so far!
