Cultural Coalition Receives Gift from Friends of Mexican Art
This January, Cultural Coalition received a $1,700 gift from the Friends of Mexican Art (FOMA) towards the Cultural Coalition Guerrero Family Apprenticeship Program in support of an Arts Studio/Collections/Museum Studies Intern. This gift is intended to encourage the education of future museum professionals in working with and presenting Mexican, Mexican-American and Indigenous art.
“After nearly sixty years, Friends of Mexican Art has fulfilled its Mission Statement and is dissolving. During this time, FOMA has advocated for and supported education about the art and culture of Mexico. Additionally, they have purchased and donated works of art by Mexican, Mexican-American and indigenous artists to local museums and institutions.
In this legacy donation to Cultural Coalition, FOMA sponsors an Arts Studio/Collections/Museum Studies intern to encourage the education of future museum professionals in working with and presenting Mexican, Mexican-American, and indigenous art.” – Friends of Mexican Art
We are so grateful to have this support from FOMA, such an important organization that truly helped to push the boundaries of recognition for and to elevate the art of Mexican, Mexican-American, and Indigenous artists. With this gift, Cultural Coalition has been able to host our first Museum Collections Management Intern to assist us with the work of inventorying, accessioning, and cataloging pieces for the Mask Alive Museum & Cultural Center.
