Carmen & Zarco Honored at XICO 50 Year Anniversary Gala
On April 5 Carmen and Zarco Guerrero were awarded the Virginia E. Cardenas Arts Advocate Award at the Xico 50th Annual Gala.
“It was a dream come true to be recognized as the original founders of Xicanindio, an organization that fueled our careers as arts advocates in Arizona.
This recognition symbolizes the beginning of a new era of collaboration, and reignites a commitment to Xicano and Indigenous Arts.
We hope our legacy continues for the next 50 years and beyond, and that the next generation continues to connect with art, culture and activism.
A heart filled thank you to my team and board members from Cultural Coalition, the board of Xico, all the artists and collaborators of Xicanindo, and all of those who shared space and supported us for the last half century.
Que Viva El Arte, La Cultura Cura ✊🏽”
~ Carmen Guerrero, Executive Director Cultural Coalition

Surrounded by family, friends, artists, and supporters, Carmen & Zarco were proud to have such great support throughout their 50+ year careers. This magical night left them with a sense of reinvigorated passion for the work they are doing – advocating for artists and the cultural preservation of traditional art forms. As the co-founders of XICO, ALAC, Cultural Coalition, and their newest endeavor of a Mask Alive Art Museum & Cultural Center, their legacy to our Arizona arts community will be one that inspires generations for years to come.
¡Felicidades!
