3rd Annual Mask Alive! Festival of Masks
Popular Valley Cultural Event Goes Virtual
Join Cultural Coalition, Inc. for a virtual festival of art, culture, and storytelling at the 3rd Annual Mask Alive! Festival of Masks on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 2 p.m. streamed on Facebook, IGTV and YouTube Live. Adults and children of all ages will enjoy an entertaining collection of intricate and colorful mask performances, highlighting the cultural diversity of the southwest and the power of storytelling through dance, music, and theater.
“Mask Alive! is a testament to diversity and living cultural expression in our community” says local Mesa artist Zarco Guerrero. Community favorites from past Mask Alive! events will be a part of the virtual program including giant puppets, otherworldly performance art, and cultural dance troupes as well as new featured artists.
Festival Line-Up Includes:

● Kung Fu performance in Chinese Opera Mask by Kenny Perez
● QVLN Music Video : “Bones”
● Astarte Egyptian Belly Dancers
● Vessel Theater Company
● Ollin Yoliztli Dance Academy
● Mask Talk and Performance by Eli Renteria
● Desert Dragon Dance Theater
● Closing Music by QVLN and AncestralOne of the most fun parts of this festival is the make your own mask arts and crafts activities, which will be offered as instructional videos before the event, so that everyone can still have a chance to get creative and wear their mask masterpieces during the festival.NEW THIS YEAR AT MASK ALIVE!
● Covid mask design contest! Staying safe doesn’t have to stay simple and we know the
mask creations to be featured on Cultural Coalition’s Facebook and Instagram to be voted
on during the festival.
● Raffle featuring works of art and items donated by local artists to raise funds for Cultural
Coalition’s support of art education and local artists. Tickets start at $20 for a chance to win the featured prize of a hand-crafted mask by artist Zarco Guerrero with an estimated value of $1000.
