Tizoc Guerrero was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. He was born into a musical and artistic family, and began practicing music at the age of 3. Tizoc’s mother was born in Recife, Brazil, but Tizoc rarely traveled to Brazil and was disconnected from half of his culture and family. As a young boy Tizoc always had an interest in martial arts and at the age of 11 he discovered Capoeira. Capoeira became Tizoc’s way to connect to his Brazilian roots, satisfy his interest in martial arts, and utilize his years of musical practice
Through Capoeira, Tizoc has traveled back to Brazil on many occasions, and regularly visits many cities in Canada, Mexico and the United States. During his travels Tizoc teaches workshops, performs in many folkloric Brazilian dances, and plays music for hundreds of students and thousands of spectators. In Arizona, Tizoc is the musical director of Grupo Axé Capoeira’s music and dance group. He teaches throughout the Valley on a regular basis at the Axé Capoeira Academy, and the various school systems in the Phoenix area.
